Side trips along Route 66

Gateway Arch, St. Louis, MO. Take the tram to the top.

Sandia Tramway (longest in the world), Albuquerque, NM.

Drive down into the Grand Canyon all the way to the Colorado River from Peach Springs, AZ. A $5.00/person permit must be obtained from the Hualapai Nation travel office in the new motel.

Topock Maze, CA. Many acres of this Prehistoric maze were destroyed when Interstate 40, a power plant and this road were built on top of these windrows. There are no highway signs to this site. Take the Park Moabi offramp (west of Topock, or east of Needles) and head south toward the mountains on the gravel road. Turn left at the 2nd road where it T-intersects the pipeline road. Start looking left in about a 1/4 mile for a small Bureau of Land Management site-description sign and small parking lot.
