Terrain fly-through animations

Digital elevation models are used as a framework over which fractal landscapes are placed using Scenery Animator software. End products include virtural fly-throughs of past, present, or future geologic enviroments.


A look back in time to a glacier-filled ancestral Yosemite Valley.

The documentary video "Living Crust" uses a "dissolve" from a glacier filled valley to the present day scene while the the viewer flies toward Half Dome. For a preview "Download" a 1.2 meg file or look for it on the PBS network. Because of bandwidth constraints the animations is presented without sound and at "thumbnail size". A full screen animation would be 90 MG in size.

After complete deforestation by the Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980, this rendering shows what it may look like 200 years in the future when the forest reestablishes itself on the flanks of the volcano.
